He's my favorite character with his kind and good-natured behavior XD)This game is a very good extension to the other two and it is the first fully synchronized one!!The voices of the characters are a little strange in the beginning (because the other two weren't synchronized and you had to read through all the conversations and stuff), but you learn to love each one of them!!Like I said (or tried to): totaly worth playing it!Have fun!. Without Voice Acting: 9/10, would recommend. With Voice Acting: 3/10, skip. This is a confusing game to recommend. It's quite possibly the best game so far, with better writing, graphics, plot, and setting (though the puzzles are a bit lacking compared to Crooked and Sand Man). But the voice acting is HORRENDOUS. So bad, in fact, that I uninstalled the game and downloaded a freeware version of it without VA and played THAT instead. If a patch were to be released which allows the player to disable the voice acting, then I would recommend it whole-heartedly. Unfortunately, until such a day, I honestly think you're better off looking up a freeware version of this game, even if it's a bit less polished. That said, if you ARE interested in playing, I think you should still buy the game, because it's only a few dollars and Uri (the writer) honestly deserves it. I suggest doing what I did and buying the game to have in your library, then playing a freeware version.. After The Sand Man I was not sure what to expect about this game. The shift in mood and atmosphere from The Crooked Man to The Sand Man caught me off guard, and even though I am more of a fan of the horror genre, The Sand Man was a very pleasant and surreal surprise, so I was ready for anything The Boogie Man would throw at me.And we went back to Horror! First impression was, honestly, not amazing. The voice acting isn't absolutely terrible per se (but honestly would not call most of it good), what was most annoying about it was the recording quality. It gave the game a cheap feel to be honest, as if I was hearing the characters speak to me through Skype.Voice acting aside, this game has the strongest characters of the three (well, and also the most characters), including characters from the past two games. The way this game connects to the previous two games really caught me by surprise, I was very happy about how that was handled, definitely my favorite thing about this entry. The story was also very well realized, as it's been the usual in this series, but I felt like the puzzles this time around were a bit too obscure / random. I found myself having to check vgpersons' walkthrough once or twice, and the way forward was always something that honestly would not have occurred to me. Maybe if I went around hitting X (used a PS4 controller before anyone asks) on everything. Either way, that bit was a little annoying since this did not happen at all during the previous games.Overall, this is a really good entry. In terms of its placement in the series, I still hold The Crooked Man as my favorite, maybe because it was the first one, and The Sand Man has a special place in my heart because of a sudden change and great mind**** it caused me for not knowing what to expect but another horror entry. I would say this is tied with The Sand Man in my book.Check it out if it sounds good to you! Don't let the voice acting fool you in the beginning, just push through it and enjoy the game! Now onto the 4th entry.... Absolutely loved the game, just like I loved all the other games in the series. While the voice acting is a bit different for the series I thought it was a good addition and I cannot reccomend this game enough!. So first off, at the time of writing this I have played Crooked Man, Sandman and am about 2 hours in to Hanged Man, after beating this game.(I've only wrote a review for Crooked man so far though)Anyway, so first off I want to say I did enjoy the game. I'd be lying if I said I hated it or something. However, currently I'm rating it my least favorite of the "man" seires. Why? Simply because I feel it lacks the charm the others have. I feel the first two had certain elements that this one just didn't have. The Boogie Man felt way too realistic, now I bet you're saying "Why is that bad?"Well, mainly because the first two games (and already with the 4th) had a more mystic feel to them. Both the Crooked man and Sandman were interesting charcters and I felt a clear motive behind their behavior. I just... didn't feel that with this. Maybe I missed something, and maybe one of the other endings says more about the Boogie man himself. But he really didn't feel like a Boogie man. He felt like just a guy, a guy who liked making people miserable and wanted to cause problems. And beyond him saying he remembered Sofie, he didn't really have many supernatural elements going on.And maybe that was the intention, to make this game feel more real. But with such a neat concept like the Boogie man, I don't know I was just expecting more eerieness. Both Crooked man and Sandman felt a lot more intimidating as well, and heck Sandman wasn't even really an evil guy. Now, despite me wanting more to be done with the Boogie man himself, I really enjoyed the characters. Keith and Helena were both pretty miserable, which obviously I can't complain about because that was kind of the point. But I really enoyed seeing Sophie and David from the previous games.Honestly thats basically my favorite part of this, is seeing more of the connections between all the games. The game itself is built just fine compared to the other entries in the seires, although I felt it was easier to get lost in this one compared to the others.Oh I guess I should comment on the voice acting, but I'll be honest when I say it isn't a factor in me having issues with the game. I think it's ambitious, considering it's super rare for games made in RPG maker to have voice acting (I think this series is the first to do it) In fact it's rare for indie games to have voice acting at all since it IS a lot of work. Obviously some of the voices took getting used too. I personally think the worst was Helena, she was too quiet and sounded like she was trying to record for a cute ASMR video... But beyond that, it didn't really bother me. And I'm enjoying the voice acting even more in Hanged man, so bold move!So yeah, that's about it. I'd recommend playing this if you're wanting to complete the series or maybe if you're like me and try any good RPG maker game you find interesting.Overall, certainly not a bad experience I just had my expectations a bit high I believe, especially after how much I loved the sort of, twisted whimsy of the Sandman.. I really like it. A simple storyline, some nice characters and many situations where you have to think thrice and/or get some game over screens until you find a solution. I wouldn't give the voice over a prize but after playing the Hanged Man I noticed that the voice actors had tons of fun and that makes me happy.. The voice acting was a turn off, and the game felt like a scooby doo episode. Love some of the other games tho :). After playing through about half of this trying to get the true ending, I eventually gave up on it because, quite frankly, it's convoluted, and I wasn't really being moved at all by the story. And even though this one is plenty violent, the way the main character reacts to everything (that is, barely emoting) just got old after a while. It does have a nice setup, with the whole murder mystery in the castle thing, but it just doesn't remain gripping enough for me to continue wanting to play. It's nice to see some of the characters from the other games here, but not only was Sophie turned into an annoying brat, but, like the last game, weirdly enough no one mentions their previous experience with these otherworldly phenomena. I don't know. I'll give the last game a shot, but so far each one has been progressively weaker and weaker for me.. The Game itself was amazing. Long playthrough and story was very well made. However, the voice acting that was inculded in the game, needed some improvement, not saying everyone but half of the actors who voice acted. Also I am that type of person who is ok without voice acting when it comes to pixle RPG games, so the voice acting that was included in this game was suprising.. This game was excellent - complicated, intriguing, and genuinely involving... until I got stuck at the very end of the game unable to proceed because of some kind of glitch.*SPOILERS AHEAD*I turn back from the dog room, no cut scene occurs, and the arrow kills me before the game can register any key input. EXTREMELY frustrating. And disheartening. And overall devastating. I'm three and a half hours into a game that requires you to save at various points along the way in order to go back and play most of the game over again JUST to get a different ending (a wildly perplexing choice considering how easy the different endings were achieved in The Crooked Man and The Sand Man), and yet the game does not provide enough save files to make sure you do not end up saving over an important milestone and thus force yourself to start from the beginning. My last save file before the one with David and Keith standing around outside the death-arrow door with no possible way forward is back when Sophie was in the vents. At this point I would rather a) watch the endings on YouTube and not bother playing it myself, or b) have never started the game in the first place.I still recommend this game, because it is great, and part of an excellent series. But this problem is a massive blow that needs to be addressed by developers. The last I saw any activity on the matter was back in May 2018, nearly a full year ago.Fix your game so that I can give it the review it truly deserves, and not some frustrated rant!
